Printing origami paper
Can I fold origami with printer paper?+
Yes. Standard 70–80 gsm printer paper folds well for most models, especially easy and intermediate ones. It is a little thicker than origami paper, so choose a larger square (15–20 cm) for models with many layers, like the crane.
What size square should I print?+
15 cm (6 in) is the classic origami size and suits almost every diagram on this site. Pick 20 cm or more for a first attempt at a complex model and 7.5–10 cm for lucky stars, small hearts or decorations.
Why is my printed square the wrong size?+
Your printer is probably scaling the page. In the print dialog choose “Actual size” or 100% instead of “Fit to page”, then check the 1 cm bar on the sheet with a ruler.
Should the colored side be up or down?+
Most diagrams start with the white side up so the color ends up on the outside of the finished model. Each diagram tells you which side to start with in its first step.
